(Bujinkan Gouin Dojo with Shihan Paul Masse from Japan)
The Bujinkan Gouin Dojo was established in 2009 by Shidoshi Ross Brinsden and Shidoshi Matt Fisher. Although the Dojo is relatively new, the ideals, ethics and training methods have been continuously studied over many years.
The class includes the core foundations needed to practice martial arts safely and effectively as well as advanced techniques. It is therefore suitable for both beginners and more experienced martial artists. Both Ross and Matt are very enthusiastic martial artists and hope to bring a traditional but fresh approach to training. They aim to make the best use of modern facilities to apply traditional exercises in the most beneficial way, while remaining true to the art's origins. Hard work, respect and perseverance are the backbone of the school and the instructors aim to promote mental as well as physical conditioning. They wish to create a safe and comfortable training environment with an atmosphere of mutual respect among students and teachers.
Founders/Senior Instructors
Both Ross and Matt have extensive teaching experience, are fully insured and qualified.
Matt has been training since the age of 13. Since then, he has assisted in teaching students self defence at South Cheshire College. He was running a class by the age of 16 and has also participated in school demonstrations. In November 2008 he took a trip to Japan and trained with the highest-ranking teachers in the world at the Hombu Dojo, home of the Grandmaster, Dr Masaaki Hatsumi. In the middle of his trip Matt was put forward to take the saaki test with Shihan Nagato, under the supervision of Soke Hatsumi. Matt passed the test and was accepted into the Bujinkan as a Shidoshi, to return home as a teacher and share what he had learnt.
Ross has been training since the age of 4. He has been a student of various martial arts and has grades in Karate, Kick Boxing, Jujitsu and Kung Fu as well as Bujinkan Taijutsu which he found aged 12. Ross has taught several classes since 1998, including self-defence classes at South Cheshire College, Ladies-only classes and school demonstrations. At the last UK Taikai in June 2003 Ross had the honour of taking the saaki test with Soke Dr Masaaki Hatsumi, in front of various Shihan from around the world, and was granted the rank of Shidoshi.
Instructor
Dan Foxley has been training in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu for some 10 years. Along with his study of Budo he has also trained in Reiki, Shiatsu and recently in Zen Meditation.
